Surprise Twill Tea Towels Rigid Heddle Pattern

CA$8.99

These towels combine stripes and texture. Woven with a pick-up stick and string heddle (or 2 pick-up sticks), the right side of the fabric has weft floats, but it is the wrong side where the magic really shows. Once these towels come off the loom and are washed a dried a delightful “bird’s eye twill” appears! And now the wrong side becomes the right side! This is not a happy accident: weft floats are easier to weave than warp floats. But weft floats on the front make warp floats on the back!

This pattern requires a 24” rigid heddle, a 10-dent reed, 2 pick-up sticks and (optionally) 65 string heddles. Weaving is done with 2/8 cotton and includes 2 colour options.

This is not a beginner pattern, however if you have some experience with pick-up sticks, you should be ready to tackle this project. The pattern includes video links to help you with string heddles.

Instructions included for a blue variation
